Terahertz 3D bulk metamaterials with randomly dispersed split-ring resonators

Abstract While optical systems using terahertz wave are expected to achieve beneficial applications, at present, the materials of elements that compose them must be selected from limited choices. In this study, we propose a three-dimensional bulk metamaterial in which metal microstructures dispersed resin randomly. A was designed and fabricated, split-ring resonators known as typical metamaterials were cyclo-olefin polymer. fabrication method, sheet containing first prepared then diced into grains single resonator. Finally, they filled mold solidified with solution obtain target metamaterial. The properties fabricated measured by time-domain spectroscopy. measurement results confirmed refractive index deviated original polymer due resonance resonators, suggesting proposed could used new material band.
